UNICEF-ITU’s Giga Initiative Adopts Lido Impact Staking to Fund Global School Connectivity
Giga, a joint initiative by UNICEF and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), has integrated Lido Impact Staking to finance its mission of connecting every school worldwide to the internet by 2030. The program enables donors to contribute a portion of their staking rewards to support school connectivity projects, creating a sustainable funding mechanism.
"Innovative financing models like Lido Impact Staking allow us to accelerate school connectivity at scale," said Gerben Kijne, Blockchain Product Lead at UNICEF. The initiative leverages blockchain technology to unlock new funding streams while allowing participants to become "impact stakers."
Giga assists governments in designing, planning, and implementing school connectivity solutions. By adopting crypto-based funding, the project taps into the growing intersection of decentralized finance and global development.
